screeching noise

Hi guys! I've used the search button over and over, but now I guess I'll ask you guys the problem I'm facing. I've had my alternator done at a shop bout a month ago, and recently, especially with the cold weather, the car's been starting up with screeching noises. I assumed the source was a loose alternator belt, so I took it back to the shop and the guy told me he'd check another time, but also told me it could likely be 'bad groundings' (because of the distance front of the car to the mid-engine). Personally, I've never heard of this, especially when I've tighten alternator belts before...so, has anyone heard of his assumptions? Can anyone back him up? the Noise is irritating. Thanks you guys for any possible leads...-Ferry here's the car's info.

91 Toyota MR2 Turbo, Greddy S BOV, HKS TTimer, rebuilt alternator, single exit exhaust

just tighten the alternator belt a bit... it shouldn't be the pulley bearing.... especially if its a rebuilt alternator. and the tech's "bad grounding" idea would have nothing to do with your screeching....
I've had the same problem before.. it only squeels like a banshee when it's cold, or wet.... and once you get it moving... it stops.

just tighten it up... that should do it. you could also have some contaminates on the belt causing it to slip... so if the tightening doesn't cut it.... clean it. you don't have anything leaking onto it do you?

Thanks MR-355-5sfTe! I'll see if I can get the belt tightened soon...as for the belt, I haven't noticed any contaminating materials causing it to slip. So, has anyone heard about bad grounds, like the answer i got from the mechanic?

no...never heard of it. I had the same problem and just as Dave said, tightened the adjuster on the alternator. after that, the noise was gone.. if the noise still persists, try some belt dressing ..
