2.0 block vs 2.2 stroker for drag

Hi guys. Bought my 91 MR2 3 months ago from a kid who trashed it. He bought it 2 years ago for 3500 bucks with a rebuilt 5sfe. He trashed the clutch a year later, had a stage2 1200 dollar clutch job and then trashed the motor 3 months later. I bought it with border body kit and a dented rear end for 600 bucks. (rest of car is in good condition, especially the interior. I am currently throwing a 2.0 3sfe (bought from makato for 280 bucks) in my mr2 to replace the blown POS the car came with. At my uncles house i have a brand new 3sgte bottom end (yes stock forged internals, block and crank) all new. I have the option of building a 3sgte 2.0 from scratch, or using the 5s crank, buying new internals and doing a 2.2 stroker that can handle more horsepower. The price difference between the two projects is about 1k. (Pistons and rods for either project is 700-1200. The preparation of the 5s crank and bearings/ anything else I am expecting 1k). My question is: Which would be better for a future Drag car that I still wish to be street driven for now? My research leads me to believe that because of the longer stroke and larger displacement of the stroker idea, it will be more streetable and have more power (thus better for my situation). But some still say that the swaure stock design of the 2.0 (87x87) is still best for drag? (I don;t believe this personally) Some help making a smart decision. I know my future plans are a factor as well. In the near future (1-2 years) I plan on making the car nice, dragging for fun just to learn, and not running too much power (maybe 350 or so). After that I plan to really blow it up though. Either way I want to prepare the internals to handle the power.

HELP! (ps: sorry for the long post)

Stroker is for more torque, non-stroker is for more HP.
You do know you still need a 3S-GTE head to build the engine, right?

Ofcourse, but the head is going to built the same way either way. I am just trying to decide what to do for a bottom end. You kind of met me halfway with your answer, so my next question is: What is better for drag times, more torque or more HP? (my guess is HP, but I am n00b to drag).

id actaully say more HP, with proper launch in your powerband.

remember torque is simply a offshoot of horstpower (its actually the other way around) so its all relative.

if youre gonna be revving MORE then 5500rpm, you want a big HP number if ya gonna rev less, you want a big torque number.

i say consider a 5vz-fe v6 swap if you want a stroker..

quite a easy project if your handy with the tools

and that engine can take boost like.. 13-15PSI on stock motor.. = 350-400whp, 450-500 torque to wheel .. booya!

The 3S-GTE/GE head is totally different then a 3S-FE and 5S-FE head.
The FE head is economic and the GE head is for performance.
I'll say HP for drag. A non-stroker rev easier and you can balance and light weight it to rev high. I'll take torque for street and auto-X.

I say, rework the 3s cyl head and keep the 2.0 bore. For the same money it will take to get the stroker kit setup, you could build the motor for an nice big shot of NO2.

If you want a daily driver with massive torque put in a 5VZ-FE with the TRD supercharger with my valve spring kit, cams and shimless buckets

NOS is great and all but I hate 1 time shots. I like having constant power, so i am really considering doing a custom water injection kit, and pumping up the boost. But that is all next year, just doing my research now, and seeing what would be cool to do. Strokers are good but my research is showing that square dimensional motors (meaning bore and stroke are the same) are perfect for drag cause you can boost high and get higher horsepower numbers. So for drag sakes, it would be hypothetically better not to do a stroker, and leave my new 3sgte block at a 87x87 bore/stroke.
