91 strange sound.....

Ok,here's the problem,my 91 N/A has a strange sound coming from the area of the exhaust manifold(i think)).When i start the car none of the idiot lights come on and the car idles normal.There is also a fine wisp of smoke coming from the right side of the engine bay coming up from the ac compressor(which isn't hooked up or operational).The smoke isn't coming from the compressor but the area from underneath or near it.I dont think its the head gasket,no strange things in the oil,nothing leaking from the car,etc.Car does not overheat.Car is good on oil and coolant.I took the top off the coolant and there is a brown sludge on the tube,other than that all looks normal.Any ideas?

maybe one of the skinny water bypass lines under the exhaust manifold leaking a little bit of water(infamous hose from hell) .?

I thought the HFH was a turbo specific blessing.

Could the sound be an exhaust leak? Does the smoke look bluish like burning oil?

If your valve seals are seeping it could be that what you're seeing is oil burning off and coming out an exhaust leak. That could account for the sound and the smoke.
