Is Back-Pressure important?

Hi guys,

Maybe by next week i'll be buying a welding machine, to be used in building my two car garage roof and to start practicing arc welding. Since the TKO Exhaust System is quite expensive for me right now, im planning to build my own TKO similar Exhaust system. My question is, Is Exhaust Back-pressure important to make the most horsepower? Because according to this guy back-pressure is a total power robber.. http://www.slcstreetracing.com/articles/exhaust.asp

And any other tips i need to know would be deeply appreciated.. Thanks guys..

Speaking generally with turbo cars, the less backpressure the more power you will make.

If you read JekylandHyde's website about Hyde, just by replacing the B-pipe Hyde got an extra ~3/10 sec in the quarter.

When properly set up, the best back pressure is NO back pressure.
This is no problem on a turbo car since they love flow.

On an NA car, if you open the exhaust up too much it can really kill torque until you tune the car for the open exhaust.

Nope ... the downpipe is a piece that replaces the main cat.

The b-pipe is the piece that goes from the bottom of the main cat (or the downpipe) to the muffler piece.
