MKII Turbo (AWD?)

Were all the MKII Turbo MR2's AWD or was that an option or what? Because I saw on a japanese car auction site one of their MKII's had a emblem on the back "All-Wheel-Drive" But I thought the 3S-GTE engine and tranny set on the MKII turbo was an AWD Transmission. PLEASE HELP! thanks!

I don't beleive there was ever an AWD version MR2 in any generation-either USDM or JDM.........all were Mid engine RWD.... maybe a custom job or just a ricer emblem.....I could be mistaken, but I don't think so...

HAHAHA!!! Now that would be something!! If only i had a spare MR2 like you do, and ofcourse, MONEY!! hehehe.. this would need lots of it and lots of custom work.. my first idea would be try to reverse the Celica's AWD drive train.. Damn, i can't imagine the headaches that would come with this crazy project.. hehe maybe you should try it MR2BAD!! Then i could learn from you. ahihihi.. but then in the end, i love my rear-wheeler.. nothing is more fun driving than an RWD mid engine car! ofcourse IMO..

^^^ not facing the right way for an mk1.....

and then these were quotes from some rally board:

added info from Sketch
Quote:
Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that thing. That thing was Toyota's Group S WRC MR2 prototype, it was going to replace the Celica in 1988 after the FIA pulled the plug on Group B, but unfortunately Group S never came to be.

Who wouldn't want a matte black, 600HP, 4WD MR2?

Quote:

Yeah thats a Group B Celica (background of 1st pic), it made 370ish horsepower and was the only front engine rear drive group B rally car. Made a name for itself by winning lots of African rallies, but couldn't compete against the more powerful French, English, German, Italian and American 4WD's in European events.

I wonder where that is? Only three of those MR2's were built, one was destroyed, the other was badly crashed (I believe it was sold and rebuilt) the other survived testing and is rumored to be owned by one of the higher-ups at Toyota. Two were mid engine rear drive and had transverse mounted engines, the other one had a north-south mounted engine in the rear and was 4WD.

not sure why anyone would want to try to convert their MR2 to awd. in anything other than rain/snow, AWD is slower than RWD. that rally version is the pimpshit, i remember seeing that a while ago on a different forum.

ToyotaSpeed90. thanks for sharing ... nice find.
Sad that there is an oil pan under it ... lol

Peter, the Lamborgini Diablo was available in AWD ... so there was a prodution mid-engine AWD car. I'm sure there were others.
