New 94

What is going on everyone I am brand new to the MR2 community and trying to learn as much as I can. I have always been into imports mainly honda's. Now I found this car, right now I am currently in Japan and I am wanting to bring mine back to the states I have a few questions... For one, Have any of you gone through importing one to the states? What is it that needs to be done to import them? Also, what does it ussaully cost?

Now for the car It is a 1994 MR2 Glimited N/A. There will be some pictures following. what is the enigne code for it or where can I find it? Then the turbo question, I am thinking about turboing it if I can bring it back what do you guys suggest turbo wise if I should just throw a small turbo and leave the engine stock or I will need to do abunch of internal work to it...

Well here are some Pics

I have more pictures but I will stop there for right now.

Thanks for the help

if your gonna go thru the trouble of importing it back to the states....just find a nice turbo to bring back...your in japan..shouldn't be hard to find them....the engine code is 5FSE for NAs...its not worth the time or money trying to turbo that motor...

dont even bother importing a na to turbo charge it, the 3sge runs 10.3:1 compression so turbocharging it is going to be very expansive, plus those engines dont have oil cooled pistons so again turbocharging the n/a isnt gona last long, unless u want a conversion.

I wanted to turbo charge my 97 3sge but its just not worth it, just enjoy the n/a 175hp stock. - 129kw at 7000rmp ,
tourque = 186@4800

and if turbo is your dream, import yourself a nice 96> gen3 clip.

GL

i remember the engine number was on the engine block , if u look at the engine ftom the back of your car its right hand side towards your side of the engine block. make sure you use a torch makes life easier.

i also check the compression pressure for each cylinder before u bu it just to make sure,
minimum is 1226kpa@250rpm(starter motor rpm)
idle speed 800 +-50 rmp
oil pressure 249-490@3000rmp

See I am going to bring this car back for a fact once I find out the price it will be in the works. But so far from you guys you pretty much suggest just dumping a new motor in it that is built for a turbo. What about rebuilding the one I have with some low compression pistons and going that road? and on the HP part my title over here shows the engine having 200hp and you guys are saying 175hp. So could that be more of the JDM engine having it compared to USDM.

only the 99 beams 3sge has 200Hp, you have a 175hp engine unless it has some work done to it to achive 200hp.

Also remember japan has 100Ron fuel so the computer is programmed for that fuel and if u bring it to US, i wonder how it will like low octane???

You can turbo charge it, as the turbo model uses the same block, but you need to supply oil to the turbo and back to engine, installl piston oil coolers on the n/a block, (oil supply insufficiency has killed more engines than boost)

http://www.toysport.com/Technical%20...tech_notes.htm

but why re invent the wheel, toyota has already done a brilliant job designing the 3sgte.

I was thinking exacly like you before, but if u want a reliable conversion you be paying 2x 3sgte conversion. and still you have a less flowing head, unless you change it as well.

kep in mind if you change your gearbox for lsd(unless u have it already) new hubs and axels need replacement 2.

have you bought the car already??
how much turbo half cuts go for there? or gen 3 engines??

I know how it runs on low octane I fill up on a military instalation with 93 everytime. Even though it is not the best for it. It is better then paying out the ass.

Are you military? If I recall correctly a buddy was telling me about how he imported a car from Japan when he was stationed there and they federalized it and took care of all the necessary paperwork, bypassing civilian channels, before it even went on the ship.
