don't really know what your technical/mechanical abilities/level is/are. if it's a MkIIT, then the trans is about the same as my MkI SC. it's heavy. some folks like to drop the engine/trans as a unit. i didn't do any such thing. in fact, i set the record on from ground-up into the engine bay and bolted onto the engine in under 5 minutes. that was the 1st time. the second time was much faster. you will want to change the rear main seal and release bearing while you are doing the clutch. resurface the flywheel also.

MK I is a little easier than the MKII.

On the MKII you have to drop the suspension frame to get the trans out. Very diffucult especially if the bolts won't cooperate.

Good luck !

I wouldn't say that it's incredibly difficult. If you haven't done it before yourself it would be a very good idea to get someone more experienced to help you as there are stages where you could really damage either the car or yourself. Take your time and make sure that you keep track of where everything goes as you disassemble it. (I put everything in baggies and label 'em so I don't have to guess later.)

Are you talking about the crossmember? If so, that is not accurate. There is no need to drop the crossmember. The BGB also tells you to drop the exhaust which is not needed if you're very careful about making sure that the engine is supported.

makes it much easier if you do this on an mk1 SC.... I had to do the same so the end could clear the motor.

a friend & I had to swap a tranny out in this POS dodge colt (because the tranny was bad, and so were the first 3 tranny's we got from the junkyards..... warning, don't ever get a tranny from an unwrecked dodge colt... it's probably in there because of tranny issues) and could get it from ground & bolted to the motor in about 10 min. lol. practice makes perfect
