Need help with '93 N/A tranny...

I lost 5th gear last night on the freeway. Can shift, but does not engage engine, simply revs...Car runs okay in 1st through 4th gear and in reverse, just 5th gear gone...

Any suggestions??

Your tranny is shot.

You might be able to get it rebuilt and working again, but it will be a hell of a lot easier and maybe even less expensive to purchase a tranny and swap yours out. If you're interested, I know of someone that might be willing to sell you one he's got sitting around.

Out of curiosity, how did it happen?

The transmission is a system. Yours has been destabilized and 1 - 4 might continue to work for a while but it's days are probably numbered if you continue to drive the car.

I understand the concept, just curious since by looking at the diagrams of the 5SFE gearbox, 5th gear is isolated from the other gear clusters, so can't one just replace that gear, or is it necessary to rebuild/replace the entire stack??
