UK Power Steering Gone

Hi Folks,

I own a K Reg MR-2 and the power steering has gone

Anyone know where the fuse for this is because i have checked 2 fuse boxes and cannot find it

Ive also checked the fluid thats ok, so anyone know any other problems that it could be?

Cheers, Joe

What is "K Reg"?

The PS pump uses a relay, not a fuse.

What symptoms are you seeing?

a temporary fix would be to turn your key in the ignition on and off about 20 times as quickly as you can.

i'd be willing to bet that it is the relay. It can be found in the frunk in the bottom left or right i believe.

The relay is actually 60 bucks or so if you go with a Toyota OEM one, a cheap alternative is a Chrystler Starter type relay.

Search on mr2oc for this problem, you'll find all your answers, or look in a BGB if you have one. I actually have the same problem with my PS and my alternator just went out.

but if he has power steering installed and not working, it's actually harder than a car not equipped with power steering to begin with.

Removing the powersteering pump does not eliminate hydraulic steering from your car. You don't get any more steering feedback (probably less), you have to work harder to turn the wheel and I can't imagine that it's very good for the hydraulic steering rack

If you want manual steering you have to change out the rack as well as eliminate the pump.

Absolutely correct! What some people will do, though, is remove the pump and cap off the steering rack where the lines go in and out. While not an ideal solution it might get someone by until they can fix things right.

sounds like your power steering computer tripped out like mine. a few days after i got my car the powersteering died after making a tight turn. disconnect the powersteering computer and plug it back in and it shud be fine.
