14g

A guy I know is getting rid of hs 14g (from his clipse of course) for a REALLY cheap amount (practically free). Is it worth replacing the ct26 with?

If I were you I wouldnt bother in swapping turbos unless its really worth it (and a 14g isnt) Its not easy removing the turbo and I can assume you would have to modify the lines to make it fit into the 14G. Not really worth it in my opinion!

I found upgraded CT26's at TurboChargers.com for $700 with core with estimated 660 to 900 cfm. Anybody know if these claims have any merit?

Supra and MR2 CT26's are very different. There has yet to be an MR2 CT26 that puts out anything close to 400whp (unless of course you count the CT26/35r). The newest breakthrough of the CT26 would be ATS's CT27... which finally passed the 300whp mark. It isn't very likely that there will ever be a 400whp CT26 available for the MR2. If there ever is I doubt it will be the cheapest or most efficient way to hit 400whp.

I don't recall the specifics, but I saw a thread on mr2oc.com that caused me to put the big 14G down for more research when I'm ready for a turbo swap. Might want to make sure the one you're looking at isn't a small 14G.

Well I dont really want to spend all sorts of money on a new turbo, so Im loking at what I already have or can get fairly cheap. Would I be able to use the Supra's ct-26?

The Supra's CT26 outside of it's twin turbo configuration actually produces less power than the MR2 CT26.

You still might want to check to see what size 14g it is and what kind of gains (or reductions) you can actually expect. You might also want to find out what it would take to install, I'm sure you'd at least need a manifold adapter fabbed up. What kind of plumbing would you have to do to support the cooling?

FYI; if you're looking to avoid trouble the words cheap and turbo don't belong in the same paragraph. Done right it's one of the most expensive upgrades you can do to your car. Done wrong it's still one of the most expensive upgrades you can do to your car but you get to pay in installments of cash and inconvenience.

I didn't mean to imply that you're being cheap; just wanted to caution you to make sure that what looks like an inexpensive solution actually is.

the turbo may be cheap..but the cost of making it work and fit will add up..that is what gairloch is trying to tell you...

Well I own a scrapyard, so I have mechanics and such to labor for me, and I have a couple various chargers laying around, so I wanted to see the best I could get for my money. I probably should have mentioned that earlier.
