i was wondering if there is a way to "gear down" the tranny in an 86 mr2, i dont know much about transaxles. is it as easy as doing a ring and pinion like in a solid axle car? is it cheap? i usually stick to my camaro, that is easy as pie to change the gear ratios. like 150 for a ring and pinion and a couple hours.

forgot to tell you guys, it's a 5 speed manual. i am looking for pure out of the hole , my car was stolen and is now a dune buggy. it doesnt need to go really fast top end i would just like to be able to climb some killer hills and crap with it.

It's quite expensive to change the differential ring gear and output shaft on transverse transmissions. If you have the proper tools and the patience, you can do it yourself. Just don't lose any of the little pieces.
