aftermarket side mirrors

I've recently aquired a set of "mclaren" side mirrors supposedly designed for my mkII... there is no way those things are simply going to bolt in and replace the factory mirrors... the part the should bolt to the door.. has no mounting locations. the portion where the window slides up through the side... does not exist on these!

has anyone on actually found a set that is a direct replacement?

I'm just going to have to fiberglass these to the doors and create a slot for the window to raise into.

I'll try to get some pictures of the install when i'm finished.

Why did you want these mirrors?

I chose aftermarket mirrors because:
1. they were significanatly lighter
2. they were significantly smaller
3. they stick farther away from the body on posts which is more aerodynamic.

What do the McLaren mirrors look like?

these are also smaller, supposedly lighter (but these are still power mirrors, so I'd say the weight difference is minute) and these also protrude about and 1 1\2" further than factory.

they have a slim, single post... and a rounded mirror housing about the size of a closed fist...
they also tilt upward about 15 degrees. I'll see what kind of bracket I have to make tomorrow, and the ammount of fiberglassing required....

I recieved these from a friend, so I thought I might install them to see how they looked... that's when I realized they are of shotty design... hence the quality fitment.
