i thought they cancelled the sw20 mr2 in the us, due to rising msrp for them and no one was really going to pay 30,000+ for an mr2. japan is a different story.

Toyota should make a MR-2 with a retro look like the SW20 keeping the ferrari look but with a V6 Twin turbo. With at least 320 HP at the wheel. And with a 6-speed manual and
t-tops .SOOO damn cool and with a price of like $35,000. .

TOYOTA was very frank at the press conference to annouce the cancellation of the MR2 sometime in 2004. They simply said that the car was designed at the get-go as an image builder and a loss leader (meaning they made little if any profit on it).

Their strategy worked, within 2 years they were number 2 ahead of Ford. So after the mission was accomplished, they dropped the '2 - end of story.

just found this image from another mr2 concept....

If anyone can translate this.... I've heard it is going to be the new MR2 in europe...

Scoop: nieuwe MR2

(18-10-2004) Tekst: ToLex.nl; Foto's: AutoBild

That thing looks like the unfortunate offspring of a Miata and a Probe.

That car
is most likley a testbed for a new drivetrain and possibly chassis disguised to look like a wide body MRS. There have been numerous arguments about it but if you look closely you can see that those front wheels do not have a very deep dish. This means that the hub itself has been moved outward. That is not a common thing when doing a wide body conversion, nor is a complete pleather skin like that car has. You can also clearly see that the rear tire is slightly further back. There is definatly something up at toyota and I can foresee a new MR2 released under the scion badge with a different name. The good news is that a wider track would indicate a slightly larger car similar to the MKII and one can only hope a V6. I wouldent expect a turbo since manufacturers (aside from subaru) seem to fear turbocharged engines.
