ive never heard of that setup with an MR2 i would think your cornering would be limited and inneficient. but those r only assumptions. are they the same style wheel?

it can be done, but to keep the tire heights about the same, you would have to use different height profile tires.I think Doc J&H runs different front and rear on Hyde. be he is all out racing.

Jeff uses 15's up front and 16's in the rear.

I have never seen 2 rims sizes difference from fron to rear. What would be the point? I'm pretty sure Jeff does it to maintain the same amount of rubber in the front as the rear, as the rear wheel well is a bit taller.

If you put 15's on the front, and 17's on the rear, you would need thicker rubber on the front than the rear. That would just be weird.

Hyde has 15(f) and 16(r)
Jekyl has 16(f) and 17(r)

My street set up, that is on Jekyl, I originally did because of cost and looks.
I bought Jekyl with 16s all around. When I bought I Hyde I bought four 17s and put them on the rear of both cars and moved the 16s to the front.

17s all around on an MR2 looks silly IMO.
The front looks jacked up.

This is what 16s/17s look like on Jekyl:

This is 17s (same rim) all around on one of my old MR2s:

The fronts just look to big to me.

Anyway, on Hyde's race set up I based my choice on costs and what TIRES I wanted to run.
More importantly than rim size, you should figure out your tire priorities.
Once you know the tire sizes you want to run, figure out the rim size for them, THEN look at styles.

I would never stagger more than 2" front to back.
I think you are asking for way too much difference in sidewall behavior.

Just my 2 psi.
