I raced a guy when i had my eclipse and i beat him in the race and when he turned around to head back to the hang out this parkin lot he was speeding and flipped his car... he was fine but prolly felt stupid
Sometimes it takes a life altering experience to realize the seriousness of the issue. Sometimes when a person realizes this, it's already too late. And just let me make one point. I'm sure as hell, it feels a lot worse to take an innocent person's life than your own. Think about that.
Jeff Fazio has plenty of informative and eye-opening material on his website that's definately worth taking a minute to check out. A couple minutes of reading could change your outlook on the subject completely, and could save your life, or even more, some one elses.

Seriously. Buddy of mine and I were in his TL goin' around 90 through a corner, racing a H22 swapped hatch. My friend got on the gas way before the apex and started to understeer, so like a moron he mashed the breaks and perpetuated the problem. We slid into the Civic pushing both cars off the road and into the tree line. The Civic made it out with some body and slight frame damage, but the TL gained intimate knowledge of a good sized tree. Everyone walked away, but it was a ridiculous waste of quite a bit of cash. That was both the last time I got in the car with that kid, and the last time I was involved in a street race. Now it's all about the autocross.
How much worse could your friends ego be, he was street racing a SUNFIRE for crying out loud.
Just kidding, kinda. Street racing is definately bad. My friend is a local cop and he pulls jackasses over in our town just about every day for racing. It's just stupid. You know what you got and you don't have to prove it to anybody, especially on the street.
Perhaps you intended to say promoted OR discouraged? I'm fairly sure this thread isn't doing both. Just for the sake of the question, and because I'm rather new here, does commenting on the stupidity of street racing qualify as discouraging it?
I dont condone street racing at all.. but I occasionally come out of a stop light like mario andretti... I generally let off about 60-70 so im not speeding terribly bad.

Well i do not street race-its stupid as hell. The other week though, i was sitting at a light next to a newer toyota, like about a 2003 totally stock with fuel injection and the overhead cam engine and automatic trans im sure.. Well, ive got an older toyota '89 , but its got a lot of mods(see my sig.). So when the light turns green, this jackass punches his Toy to the maximum to disrespect me.Well, It was too late, because i hadnt anticipated that, but if i see that clown again(I'm in a small town), im going to race him, thats for sure! IM only going to race him throught the quarter though, not street race.
