Temp gauge help

My temp. gauge stopped working. It didn't just stop all at once though. Once the car had warmed up, it would be right where it's supposed to be under acceleration, but when I would shift, it would dip down to almost the bottom. (I had my cousin convinced I had gotten a turbo and used the temp gauge as a boost gauge for a while ). Then, it just stopped working at all.

My question is this. Could this be a problem with the gauge, the cable, the sender, or what. I know the speedo cable is prone to going bad, but what about the temp? What's the best way to find out whats up? Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Andy.

it should be an easy fix....its most likely the coolant temp sensor is faulty or loose....
