eng exch dist cap prob and no start

I drive a 92 NA MR2 with a 94 NA engine in it. The guy that exchanged the motors left the electric from the 92 on. The "new' motor has 70k miles.

After the swap, I started having problems starting after the engine was hot. The radio etc would come on okay, but no crank at all.

I checked and got a CEL code of 12, for dist cap. Today I replaced the 92 dist cap (which was burnt up inside) and now get no error code at all, but it won't start at all now either (same thing, radio, cabin lights, dash etc lights up, but no crank). I've had to push start it all day.

Any ideas before I take it to the shop?

The starter has less than ten thousand miles, and I took it to autozone and had it checked about three thousand miles ago and it was good.

Let me get this straight. As long as the car is cold you have no problem starting, but as soon as the engine is warm it won't turn over? When you turn the key is anything at all happening?

yes. except it was worse before i replaced the bad dist cap. I could drive it for ten or fiteen minutes, kill it, and it would usually start up. Now as soon as it warms up it won't start.
