Question 2000 spyder 5sp exsesive oil loss?

2000 Spyder 5sp has extreme oil loss. not external. no smoke and no soot inside tailpipe.
changed to synthetic oil at 70,001 miles used 2 qts in 6 months, another 3 qts. in 4 months. oil is the best there is, so its not the oil. any thoughts?

It's the oil. Synthetic oil on older engine.
It went through combustion chamber little bit at a time. You might not notice the smoke.

It might be the best there is at lubricating, but certainly wasnt made for sealing.

I read in another Toyota forum that when the pre cats go bad it overhaets the oil and causes a oil loss. Any body else had this hapen? or know of a pre cat ckeck procedure?

Link me to that thread.
If your cat is clogged, you will feel power loss.
And I've never heard that it can overheat the oil.

precat failure is common on 2000-2001 spyders. oil loss is the first sign the engine is on its way out. i would def get it checked out.

so common they even started a list of engine failures.

I stand correct. If your precat failed, you will definitely feel power loss.
It will not "heat the oil". It may cause oil loss but not by heating it up.
If I were you, and have oil loss after changing to synthetic, I would switch back.
