Gen1 Massive Oil Leak Need Help!!

i need some help locating a oil leak that seems to be getting worse every day. it is a '86 mk1 mr2. i had to remove the air conditioning compressor to even see the back side of the motor. i thought i had it fixed when i removed a oil filter (toyota brand) that wouldn't tighten down all the way, but it is still there and worse than ever! i was told that it could be the gasket that is between the oil filter mounting bracket and the motor (not sure exactly what its called). i cant see where any oil is coming from though to be sure. i also checked out the "oil pressure sending unit" but couldn't see any oil or even a way to remove it to replace that gasket. i have also looked at the underside of the distributor but still see nothing. i could really use the help, i really dont want to kill another 4age! this seems to happen to all my drivers

Is it just not leaving marks on the motor or has the motor got so much gunk on it that you can't tell new from old?

If it's the latter I would get in there with a degreaser and a rag and go to town.

I wouldn't start replacing gaskets until you identify where the leak is coming from. You could end up rebuilding the motor :p

Do you have any indication at all of where the leak is coming from? Even what side of the engine bay?

i would check the two 'o' rings on the oil filter sandwich adaptor, then there are several crush washers on the oil cooler lines (does your car have the oil cooler?) and then i would check the dizzy 'o' ring and perhaps inside of the dizzy itself for oil leakage inside. after all of that, i would do a valve cover gasket set just to round it all out.

i think its coming from around/below the distributor. i was told it was the the "oil filter sandwich adaptor" and it would be devastating to loose pressure while driving. it is definatly coming from the exh. side of the motor. the car does have the oil cooler that is a part of the radiator line in the engine compartment. i have got under it a couple of times once while running but i couldn't see any leaking oil (even with the a/c compressor off) but every morning when i leave for work i see a huge puddle of oil. i have also reached behind the motor to check for fresh oil after it has sat and after it has ran but i dont see/feel any fresh oil under the distributor or valve covers, what does it take to replace the sandwich adapt.? can it be done in a afternoon??

yes. it's two 'o' rings and perhaps the two copper crush washers.
