sh@#$y story

i took my mr2 for the second test drive down the street the other day on its newly rebuilt motor and not more than 100 yards it lost all power. it stayed on but it was idling horrably. after 3 hours of checking all the vacum hoses and fuses and everything else i could think of, I put the timing light on it...Lets just say timing was way late. so i got the valve cover and the timing covers off and I find that the intake cam is about 2-3 teeth off and the exhaust is about 1-2 off. both retarded, and plus the belt is all chewd up ( the inside portion of the brand new belt had been shaved off). so all the polishing up that i did to that section of the motor was pointless. today im gonna order a new belt but i was wondering if the regular brand belt from kragen will do the trick or should i looking for something more durable?

I would also check & replace the spring on your timing belt tensioner. It's an inexpensive part and it could be the reason your belt wasn't tensioned correctly.

Also be sure to spin your engine over two full times with the center bolt in the tensioner pully very slightly loose before tightening everything down. That will allow the spring to put proper tension on the belt before you torque that pully.
