Clutch cable adjustment?

so this is weekend number 47 (or so) that the MR2 has stolen from me...i have to do a clutch job on it and i managed to get the clutch assembly out of my old celica (it is a new set)...however, i won't be able to put it in until next weekend, and i need to drive my car this week to get to work...

my uncle was telling me there is a clutch cable that i can adjust to temporarily ease the slipping/burning of my current clutch...does anyone know where this is and how to do it?

also, now that i have all the parts, i have a quote from my buddy for $300 CDN for entire job...i'm wondering if i should attempt this myself (i don't have a hoist or air tools), or simply pay to do it...from what i hear it's a LOT of work...what do you guys think?

$300 is a hell of a good price! Does he have a shop and full access to lifts and tools? I wouldn't touch that job for $300.

yeah it's his shop...it was a big struggle just getting the disc, bearing and plate out of the engine on the floor of my garage...i can't even imagine doing it under the MR2 with a floor jack when it's -9 degrees outside

If you weren't relying on this for daily transport and didn't have to deal with sub zero temps I would encourage you to tackle it yourself. Yes, it's difficult but if you can take your time and have a good process plan going into the project it's not too bad.
