why does every one have BOV's?

i'm just curious but from what i'v been reading lately, BOV's are worthless. most tech websites state that BOV's can cause bogging out after pressure release and rapid throttle. if this is so, why does every turbo'd import driver seem to want to by one? do they not cause that bad of a condition as the techs make it sound?

On an MR2, it's kind of a bad deal because it bleeds off metered air, so if toys with your AF ratio. This is not necessarily the case on other cars. And of course everyone wants it for the cool factor above most reasons.

The OEM by-pass valave is way better than a bov.

I'm running a gen3 map motor so the BOV sounds great and no issues to speak of like the AFM gen2 cars suffer with. That's just 1 reason why a gen 3 is superior.

my clip came with a bov. noticed it wasnt releasing all the time so i replaced it with a hks ssq. i have a gen2 with a maf. i know its not "optimal" but i havent had any problems. i love it when i see the look on the passenger's face the first time they hear it. i have been told by people who have driven behind they sometimes see a little puff of smoke when i shift (from running momentarily rich).

put it this way. i met a kid with a zen bov that was recirculated. when we drove away he followed me. i rolled down my window at the stoplight. he screamed over to me he couldnt believe how much better sounding my bov was.

I just bought a HKS SSQ-V, but I'm going stand-alone soon.
