timing belt frustration!

i spent a few hours tring to install my new timing belt and im having a big problem with the crank lining up with the cams. I'll set the crank on TDC and line up the cams on the specified marks. as soon as i pull the pin out of the tentioner, the belt tightens, the crank stays put, but the cams retard about a tooth or two. i tried setting the cams advance then pulling the pin but they still wont line up. anyone got any pionters on lining every thing up.

use the black wide paperclips with the shiny handles to hold the belt on the cam sprokets. try aligning the marks up and leaving most of the belt slack in the tensioner area. keep trying though, you will get it.

I use a zip tie.

make sure you get ALL of the slack out of the belt before you pull the pin on the tensioner.

FINALLY! i finally got the motor to line up. i put a c-clamp on the exhuast cam gear while i did the tentioner. now i just gotta put all that shit back on the motor.
