91 NA Fusebox problems?

I just picked up a 91 NA MR2 as my 3s-gte swap is still underway. I got the car for 2K and the condition reflects that. It is a USDM that was apparently in England (?) for a number of years. The owner at the time was allegedly required to install fog lights as per a UK law. Somehow this upgrade ended in the power windows/doorlocks in a non functional state. Additionally, when the driverside door is open, and the stereo is on, it makes an odd screeching sound similer to high frequency feedback. However, when the door is closed, the sound goes away...though the speakers in the door do not function. The man I bought the car from claimed that the relay switch for the power controlls on the drivers side needed to be replaced and that would solve the problem. I don't believe him. Any ideas other than/in addition to replacing the switch that will help solve the problem?

sounds like the door woring needs repaired or replaced -- it's quite common for the wires to get worn out over time -- besides -- the foglight install should have absolutly nothing to do with the door woring.... most times (90%) everything is already prewired for the fogs

I was thinking along those same lines as well. That would be conducive to the driverside speakers not working, as well as the power features. However, I neglected to mention in the previous post that the passenger side control pannel doesn't work either. It seemed a little odd that the wiring on both doors would go out. The speakers in the passenger side still function though. Is it possible that the issue is in the fusebox in addition to the door wiring? How would I go about testing that theory? I appriciate the help guys.

The power for the passenger's side door options (windows, locks, etc.) is actually routed to the control panel in the driver's door first. Both Gairloch (board member here) and I have run into almost exactly what you are describing.

In his case, he was able patch & re-solder the wiring in his door harness between the door proper and the inlet to the body. In my case, the door harness wiring was shot where it went into the harness connectors for the main harness. I ended up replacing the entire door harness.

Turns out it was a combo of the door wiring, and the relayswitch. Thanks a lot for the input guys.
