What drives engine temp guage?

Is the engine temp guage on the dash driven by the Radiator water temp sensor? Or is there another temp sensor on the actual engine?

My temp guage is out.

Also, are the electrical schematics available anywhere? I think this is volume 3, it is not online here: http://www.mr2-tech.com/bgb/mechanic...mechanical.htm

Thanks,

Bob

Great, THanks for the link. Still discovering all the MR2 sites.

Here is a link for electrical schematics and troubleshooting:

It is the sensor. I just tested it. Using and Ohm meter from the sensor to ground give infinite resistance. Also shorting wire to guage to ground makes guage go hot. Just picked up a repalcement at Toyota dealer. Part number is 83420-20020. Just about to put it in.

I replaced my temp sensor last fall. went dealer first. they wanted $21.00. and they didn't have it in stock. then I went to O'Reileys and I think it was $14.00 and they had it in stock. works fine...
