2nd Generation Obsessed with MR2's...but can't find one

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I just started college and finally have enough money to get the car I've loved since my existence, the 2nd gen MR2. I recentley sold my piece of crap eclipse and am looking to buy one really soon. I would love to meet more people who own or know a little about the MR2 and can help me out in what i need to look for when buying one. For instance should I go turbo or N/A for my first one? any info is welcome, thanks.

check Ebay, there are usually a few on there.

You can read some basic info on our cars here: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...985#post378985

if you can afford it i would get a turbo, as many MR2 owners are not satisfied with the power of the 5SFE.

i would be hesitant to buy a car on ebay right now. too much fraud going around.

http://www.mr2trader.com/

---seem to get a fair amt of cars. also usually are the cars of members of various mr2 msg boards so you can do some research and find out past issues with the cars from their past posts.

you could also try mr2oc.

either way you will prob have to drive a bit to get one. just dont settle for one in bad condition just b/c its closer.

dont even waste your time with an abused stock 3sgte too many people out there do not know how to take proper care a turbocharged car. be smart. by an MR2 with the 5sfe in and drop a JDM or rebuilt 3sgte in it. You can find N/A MR2 for under $3500, i picked mine up for 3000 and dropped a 93 JDM 3SGTE in it, i absolutly love it. it will save money on your insurence premiums. besides the US 3sgte are weak, unless you are going to rebuild it. And if at all possible get one with a LSD tranny(93+). the swap is very easy if you get a uncut harness.

The more and more I think about it I wanna go N/A. I don't want a turbo with a lot of miles on it. thanks for the advice. oh, and Zero turbo your lucky man. It's rare to see an MR2 in Iowa especially turbo. That's why I want one so bad

if you wanted one a year ago, xcars would of been a reliable source for them, thats where i found mine. very nice site. i believe alot of mr2 owners can agree on that.

there's big difference between the power of a Turbo MR2 and an N/A. if you want a turbo, by a MR2 with a turbo. you will not be satisfied with an N/A.. lots of guys have done swaps, but I think the general concensus is that it's much easier, less headache and in most cases cheaper to buy one in the first place. -if thats what you truely want... just my 2 psi
