93 Tranny w/LSD

Hey guys this is a vague question that I know will have a vague answer, but is there any way to indicate if a 91 MR2 turbo has a 93 tranny w/lsd. Is there any way to tell if you are driving it? I am looking into buying another MR2 due to the loss of my prior one you see in the avatar. The guy says he has one in there, but doesn't have the reciept because it was put in prior to his purchase. Any help would be much appreciated.

The only way you will no for certain is to pop the axles out and see if the hole going through the diff to other side is completely open or not. If it is unrestricted, it does not have LSD. If it has a thick bar dissecting the hole, you have OEM LSD.

People might suggest tests of jacking the car up and spinning the wheels and blah, blah, blah ... those test will NOT work on the MR2s viscous LSD.

The only real difference you will seen in LSD vs no-LSD udring driving is putting down healthy power out of a turn. Without LSd, you are likely to spin the heck out of the inside (unweighted) tire, with LSd you will just hook up.

Speedo cable fix?

Another question for all the wise ones.

Is it pretty easy to fix the speedometer cable on a 91 Turbo?

How about an e-brake cable? Im considering that when engaged the car won't stay immobilized.

Thanks again.

I think I responded to this on one of the other boards but I'll put in my 2c anyway.

I haven't changed one yet but the speedo cable doesn't look like it'd be all that bad if you take your time and are careful not to break anything. Have to deal with a lot of little plastic clips with this.

If your e-brake isn't holding I would first check to make sure that the cables are attached to the calipers. I've seen a few MR2s now that had the cables detached when the rearward cables froze. If it is still attached then there is an adjustment for the tension underneath one of the middle panels.

Thanks Gairloch. That should help me out a lot. Oh and it looks like I might not make it to the meet on April 22nd with my MR2. Although I'm hoping to show up in a new one, but we'll see. Thanks again for the great intel.

I could've sworn I made this as a new thread. ???

You're welcome and I hope you're able to make it. I'm trying to infect all the MR2 owners in MN with the track bug so there's a swarm of 2's in the paddock

I read entirely too many forums, it's entirely possible someone else asked the same question somewhere else Ever notice how there's a "problem of the week" trend?
