timing belt Q?

i'v replaced my timing belt twice because the belt keeps getting chewed up on the inside of the belt (side towards the motor). i'v checked the circular guild that goes next to the crank gear and its facing the way it says in the book (the concave surface towards the belt). i'v watched it idle without the cover and the belt is fine but after a couple of weeks of driving the belts begin to slip and timing is obviously screwed up. i will check the belt and its half way gone. what is goin on?

Did you check both idler pulleys for bearing noise or binding, and replace the hydraulic tensioner(3sgte)? Check the oil pump gear too. Were any of the pulleys wobbly when you had it idling w/ the covers off?

You mean the convex surface torwards the belt, if you have the dished part facing the belt it will eat your belt to pieces. >(l if this parenthisis were the guide and the L were the belt this would be incorect, >)l this is how it should look. Also alot of people have troulbe getting the tensioner tightened correctly, you may need to use a HUGE pry bar to push on the tensioner while someone else tightens it.
