turbo headers

this may be a newb Q: but i am going to ask anyway, i would guess upgrading my headers would be all good but should i spend that little extra for good name brand or just get any because i have heard of some cracking, because there not that good of a part (keep in mind i will be pushing higher psi later but for a little while i wont go past the stock boost level witch i belive was 12.5 or around there)

edit: btw i was going to buy the godspeed/ssautocrome off of ebay or buy a good name brand but...i dont really know what type yet...

actually, it's a manifold and not headers. Lots of guys are making great HP with the stock manifold. they are thicker and more dependable. man y of the aftermarket manifolds do crack and the beautiful chrome finish WILL blue. some of the others may have a different opinion. have you thought about porting your stock manifold?

It has been proven many many times that stock 3sgte manifold flow pretty well.
A guy on alltrac.net just dyno his ST185.
He is pushing 392 awhp and 377 ft.lbs on the stock exhaust manifold.
ATS just push down 500ish in a ported stock manifold.
That being said, you "might" create lag and you "will" lose reliability using that poor quality long tubular SSAC manifold.

IMO, getting an aftermarket manifold but keeping a CT26 doesn't make sense (money, reliability, and performance wise).
Only go aftermarket if you need to (changing turbo, external wastegate, etc..)

Then you should become a member. If you own an MR2, MR2OC.com should have been the first message board you joined.

Hear me now, believe me later!

porting it will make the walls thinner, but as for cracking-who knows! thats is always a possibilty with any manifold...but the stock one is thick sturdy Iron! I plan on leaving mine stock. I'm running 15 psi now of the stock CT26. the only further upgrade I plan on doing is going to the CT27 from ATS with a downpipe and higher flowing exhaust. I'll be happy with that. about 280hp..

Why is that? I'd think the factory iron item is a manifold but the aftermarket tubular item is a header.
*edit*
Why do people call a single item headers? I'd call what a V6 needs headers but an I4 singular, a header.
