The recipe is simple: large turbo, large intercooler, large fuel system, large throttle body, large intake, large piping (intake and exhaust), large cams, large intake manifold, big bost and proper engine management

This site:
http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm
offers a very logical path to making power with our engine.
You seem to be a bit out of step as far as order goes.
Your next step would be intake, exhaust, intercooler and then a bigger turbo if you are so inclined.

Lots of people say lots of things. Unless he offered proof, I would not put too much value in people's words. If he was running that much power, he would need a bigger turbo.

There are two ways about addressing engine management:
1. piggy backs - these are computeres that alter the signal of your sensors going to your stock ECU. They essential "lie" about what is going on to make the ECU pump out more performance.
2. EMS - engine management system - this is a completely new tunable engine computer
The draw backs of piggy backs is that they are limited in how much they can tune and power they can extract safely. They also can be risky on the MR2 as far as popping engines if you push them too far.
EMS's are epensive and you need to learn (or hire someone) to tune it.
You can get quite a lot of power out of these cars without ever going into the engine management issues. When (and if) you go that route is up to you. You are not at a point that you "have to" or that it is the next step for making more power.
