what is the side "intake" thing called and is it worth getting? i have searched so please be kind and flame only if you think it is really needed.

I'm guessing you talking about the scoops like on my '91 in my sig below..as for whether they're worth it or not.. dunno. I haven't notice any decrease in engine bay temps. I wired a battery powered digital thermometer to check it.
but it looks cool...I got one of mine from a fellow TN'er for cheap. and just happened to already be painted the same color as my 2. but the other one I paid more for and it was not even painted....

Might cause extra drag but you would notice it unless you go to top speed everyday.

It made the intake a lot louder because it projected the sound right towards the driver's seat. And as stupid as it sounds, I raced my friend in his Evolution before and after I had it one. he would pull a little bit every time before I put it on, and we were dead even after I put it on. It's weird, and it sounds stupid to say. But I guess the cooler intake air might have had something to do with it. I don't know. But I honestly don't see how it could make a difference.
