Gen1 mk1 engine questions, help!!

alright, heres the story, i'm looking at purchasing a mk1 mr2 from a guy at wrk for 'bout 500 usd. he says he has a turbo off an old gsx on it... looks like the engine is leaking oil pretty badly looking from underneath. i guess my question is: what engine would be the easiest and cheapest to put in it or build up to make 'round 300 to 450hp... i prefer turbo... how hard is the 3sgte swap? can the factory internals handle that kinda power? i wld b running megaswuirt for ems. i know my shit when it cums to turbos n stuff, i am just more of a mazda guru... bp05... ne help would be greatly appreciated!! soon! lol

I don't know that I've ever heard of anyone building a MkI to that kind of power. Imo the car would be almost undrivable if you did get it there. The MR2 platform just doesn't need that much power to be fast.

3sgte into a Mk I is very difficult. Yes, the 3sgte internals can handle that kind of power.

ummmm, there is a guy with a 4AGT-E with over 400 to the wheels. it takes a very saavy builder to get those numbers, though. you'll need an E series trans to be able to handle the power. and lots of suspension.

thnx 4 the probpt replys. well, i'm 95% positive im gettn it. if i cld get the name or sumway of contacting the guy with the 400rwhp 4agte that would be great! unless i tlk to that guy or sumone changes my mind, i thnk i am going to go with the 4age silver top, a modified t28 for now, megasquirt, larger fuel pump, injectors, rail, change to edis ignition so megasquirt can cntrl my ignition. so whats the deal with the e-series tranny? how much will my factory one hold... im tld its just been rebuilt and new clutch and all that gd stuff. is the e-series tranny just a newer one such as one that wld cum with the silver top? i'm also tld he just had new aftermarket springs on it... i dont remember what brand, but he said he's done some other suspension related mods as well. basically the only real problem with the car is that a tranny mount is broke, the engine mounts need replacing soon, the valve cover leaks, a cvjoint leaks, and it burns oil at the higher rpm range... i'm guessn the rings are gettn bad. ne thoughts as to my plans? all chriticism welcome! thanx again, and thanx in advance. i'm very excited 'bout this project.
