Found out what all the smoke was about..

Found the problem today started to tear into my MKI last night and got the head off then i got dark so first thing today i dropped the oil pan and pulled out all the pistons.. All i can say about that is WOW i pushed them out of the cylinders with one finger on the stud.
a pic of what i found on the #2 & 3 pistons

If you notice there are a few pieces MISSING on those two pistons. The cylinder walls are unscored i am at a loss as to why there are not chunks missing with all the metal floating around in there..

yeah, and i drove it that way.. It only has 173,000 miles. i have found that it was not properly maintained lots of oil sludge in the passages. I am going to put a set of pistons, rings and bearings in it and put it back together.. I am in need of a good master rebuild kit what is the best for the 4age 16 valve engine.. needs to have above listed items as well as a full gasket set.. thanks

nope never been apart before.. OEM gaskets on everything.. and they were ON THERE had to pry the head off.. I though you guys would like this... I even took this stuff to work and showed our engine builder and asked if he had even seen anything like it before and he said that he hadn't.. I have still not found the Pieces that are missing i am hoping they are in the oil filter..
