What kind of driving are you going to be doing? How does the car handle now? (understeer, oversteer, neutral ... )
It's not a good idea to start making changes to your suspension unless you've got a specific thing you're trying to adjust. In this case unless the car is understeering I wouldn't mess with it.

Well I figured it would help regardless of any issues I have currently. I haven't driven the car since September... so I don't remember if it had any handling issues!
That's not necessarily true. In fact, if the car is already oversteering you could just be aggravating problems.
You're not likely to see any of these behaviors in normal street driving unless you drive like an idiot
Don't change stuff unless you're doing it for a specific purpose. Throwing parts at a car 'cause someone said it was a good idea in their circumstance is a good way to end up with a really schizophrenic car.

Well I figured since in most any other car, the better or sportier models came with/with larger sway bars.... it would be a good idea. And since I had one.
not all earlier models had them (hence my 86 which lacks the bar... but has the tabs on the struts)
you need to have the earlier struts. Mid 87 they started dropping off the struts (some 87 cars had both struts with the tabs and the bar... some 87 cars had both struts with the tabs and no bar, like mine, and some came with only one side having tabs on the struts) with the swaybar tabs..... you need those to fit the swaybar in the car.
I actually have a spare swaybar, but it's going into my 86 (which is now the g/f's car) which came w/o one....
