i am doing the same to my mr-2, the clip was 2300$ shipping was 600$ install was 1500$, i also upgraded parts on it befor it was done, rebuilt turbo and got the trim to 50, and new exhaust wheel 650$ , custom exhaust 3" downpipe and straight to a n1 exhaust 400$ (already bought the n1)so just the engine put in would be around 4500- 5000$

Not worth the swap. You would be better off buying a turbo model. Id rather spend (possibly) a little more on a turbo model then to have some shop chop up my car to put in a swap.

i still dont see why everyone is agenst it...i mean have you tried to find a decent mr2 turbo with low miles? with this i have a new tranny and 40k mile engine, not to mention the fact they replace all the parts prone to breaking when the engine is outside the car

It's not a matter of being for it or against it, it's a matter of swapping just not usually making sense. So you buy your solid NA chassis for ~$3000 (fer instance) but you decide that you want more power so you get into a turbo swap. Using neopopulus's numbers you end up spending another $5k which puts you at $8k.

Now this is before you do anything about wheels/tires/suspension/brakes etc so you can tack on at least another $3k for that stuff so we're up to $11k. Don't forget paint! There's another ~$1k

Especially for someone not doing the work themselves it doesn't make much sense to swap a turbo into an NA MR2 just because the numbers don't work out. In comparison it's just not that tough to find a turbo MR2.

Now if it's 6 cylinder goodness you're looking for it makes a little more sense imo. I think it's actually possible to swap a 1mz in for less than a 3sgte would cost you.

My 2c
