Brakes

So I recently bought some slotted/drilled rotors and semi-metallic pads for my deuce...however, I've seen cars with the slot lines going in the direction the wheels spin and also the other way. Does it matter which way they go? I don't know if it's right or not but, I get the impression that if they're reversed; it seems like it would be more likely to chew up the pads.

I put slotted/drilled rotors on about 3 months ago.

I put the front ones on the wrong way, luckily while at a friends exhaust shop on a lift, he noticed the rotors facing the wrong direction on the front. The rear were ok.

This did not chew up the pads, but both front calipers were leaking around the piston.

The brake pad should grab the top of the slot in the rotor first, which is where the slot starts, then the bottom of the slot last. This is if the car is moving forward.

Unless you're tracking the car I doubt it matters. For a street only vehicle slotting/drilling is all bling.

I just got my powerslot rotors (with gas veins) and they say to put them on in such a way that the bottom of the viens (closer to the hub) hit the brake pad first.

The reasoning behind this is (according to my logic, which is often flawed, so please dont base your setup off of this only) that the veins are for gasses that are created (most modern pads are engineered to not prduce gas)... so if the rotors are situatated the way i jsut decsribed, the bottom bites first, giving the gasses (if there are any) a chance to escape. Remember that the gasses can only exit via the outer rim of the rotor (at least on the rotors and pads i have, this is correct). This means that if they were situated the way RideMR2 describes, the gasses would be trapped in, or at least have an intrinsic inward motion, making it more pressurised (a bad thing) and would tend to push the pad away from the rotor.

My logic, again, but this is how i am putting my brakes on, if i dont post here ever again, put your rotors on the other way

The way you described is how they go on.

I was looking at the rotor and thinking of the car going backwards, obviously like my logic.

That's the way I thought they went. It just didn't make sense to put them on the other way, but I have seen them on MR2s both ways, so I thought I'd ask before wasting my money on another set of brakes. My application is for autocrossing and daily driving(if I ever get my car back, it's in the shop )

I dont think there are any in stock dimensions... most are replacements for big brake kits, and as you know, those wouldnt fit...

I know Rotora makes them in big brake application, but as for others im not sure.

What would be in these 2 piece rotor kits?

You really don't need a big brake kit on the MR2. If you have and NA and find that you're cooking your brakes too easily then step up to turbo calipers. I can tell you from experience that if you put high quality pads in turbo calipers that you will have more stopping than you need.
