Question Hesistation?

Hello everyone

I am having a problem with my 1991 MR2.
It has the 2.2L 5sfe engine, with 5 speed tranny. I have had it about 4 months, and done alot to it already, mainly suspension and brakes. This problem existed when I bought the car and remains unchanged after 10k miles.

I am getting alot of hesistation/misfire at lower rpm. From idle up to about 3000.

I have replaced the plugs; bosch platinum; wires; bosch oem size; rotor, and dist. cap.
All of which looked ok.

I don't think this is the injectors, the car gets alot better as the rpm's go up. When it hits 4000, especially at WOT there is no problem.

I am down to the ignition coil, and dist. The igniton coil is not an expensive item, so I am going to replace that soon.

Car has 110k miles on it, looks to be a stock car no one has messed with, until I got ahold of it at least...

I have some headers I want to put on the car, but want to get this problem fixed first.

Is dist. failure common on the 5sfe?
What else could I check, as I am not getting a check engine light?

Thanks

It sounds to me like you're on the right track. I would be sorely tempted to run a bottle of ChevronTechron fuel system cleaner (not injector cleaner) through also. I've had good experiences with it on higher milage 5sfe's that weren't running smoothly in the past.

Do you know if the fuel filter has been replaced? You have to be a little careful with fuel and oil additives in higher milage vehicles though 'cause you can create as many problems as you solve.
