To buy this 91'?

So heres the story, i had an 89' mr2 a few years ago when i was 16 but had to sell it for many reasons. Well i have the oppertunity to buy a 91' from a fellow employee at my new job. Its been in her family since the start and been pretty much taken care of but as we all know cars wear out. Its had a lot of things done do it, and she is currently getting the alternator replaced. I havent really taken much of a look at it, but will shortly. I know the clutch "sticks" when going into 2nd gear though.

What are some things that i should be concerned about when looking into purchasing this 180,000 mi car? Any thing major, or just a lot of tune up stuff?

What are some things you all would reccomend getting done as soon as i get it? Ill fill in what has and hasent been done to it when i find out myself. But who can pass up a deal like this...$1000.

Thumbs up

That is a steal bro. If it runs then you're already ahead.

But as what will need to be looked at, everything. Likely needs shocks, bushings, valve gaskets, normal wear and tear. But 180,000 is not by far the death of an mr2. Not even close, just do your tune up and drive it, IMO the alternators are the problem at high mileage but I have a feeling alternators don't like me...

Clutch master/slave cylinders should be checked out. The n/a mr2's are great, reliable cars.

for $1K you should get it regardless. sure it gonna need some work, but for that price it'll be worth it.

that sounds like a good deal to me. i take it that it's a non turbo? check for possible signs of a BHG (oil in the coolant or vise-versa), compression would be another thing to check. if it is a non turbo & there are problems with the engine, worse case scenario, it wouldnt be to expensive to replace the motor.
