Have to pump brake pedal sometimes?

Sometimes when I push the brake pedal it doesn't seem to work till almost to the floor, so I release it and push it again; and it's fine. I've had the system bled twice... is it my master cylinder?

Your guess is prolly correct and most likely the master cylinder. If it is, other components like the brake cylinders aren't far behind.
When th fluid gets old or contaminated the result can be the same. You might wanna try and change the out fluid completely, bleed and see if that helps. but of course if it doesn't, you will have wasted all that fluid-unless you use a recovery container.

How much is a master cylinder, and where can I get one at a good price?

The Mk.II does have a brake booster, right behind the master cylinder.

It is very likely that it's the master cylinder.
