2.1L Stroker 3SGTE lives!!

a couple weeks ago i fired up my 2.1L stroker 3SGTE in my 91n/a chassis for the first time. last week on Thursday i took it out for the first drive.

i'll try to get more recent pictures, but for now, you can see most of the build and installation at http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y25/mgrimm/?start=all

i did nearly all (about 95% of it) the work myself with help from friends. from the machining, assembly, and installation right down to the painting. i'm very proud of this project, and i'm very excited, since it took roughly 15 months from when i pulled the 5SFE to when i fired up the 3SGTE for the first time.

there are still a couple issues i'm ironing out which should hopefully be taken care of in the next few days, but i thought i'd show you guys my pride and joy. i'd be happy to post a full spec list if you guys want. enjoy.

-Mike

That Motor Looks brand new! Is it? I am doing the exact same swap. I am excited to see how the drive goes?

How is the piggy bank hurting so far?

I have a 91 with the 2.2 and I'm looking for a JDM motor out there.

i got the engine used with 2 spun rod bearings. didn't bother me since i was replacing the crank and rods anyways.

it drives pretty well, and once the clutch is broken in and i'm happy with how it's running, i'm going to a dyno to get a baseline.

as far as cost, heh, i paid $7250 for my 91n/a back in 2002 (low miles, fairly perfect condition) and i've put more money into the engine than i paid for the car. it should be worth every penny of it, but there's still much more to do before it's "finished".

i'll try to get recent pictures of it, but to give you an idea, it looks 100% stock from the outside, except for the spearco IC poking through the right side vent, and the complete lack of an exhaust system. on the stock 14" 91-92 wheels for now. except for the noise it makes a pretty good sleeper, i think.

Engine very pretty, exciting.

The great thing about the 2 is how good it looks while she sits their waiting on her parts to come together. I love this car!

well, i knew before i started the build that i wouldn't have enough money at the moment for a built engine and all the bolt ons, so for now, the bolt ons are mostly stock. here's a quick parts list

3SGTE block and head
5SFE crank lightened, hardened, balanced
Eagle H beam 3SGTE rods
CP pistons 9:1 compression, 86.5mm bore
King Race bearings
TRD head gasket
ARP head studs
Ferrea 1mm oversized valves
Crower 10K rpm valve springs
Crower titanium retainers
Spec lightweight Stage 3 clutch
Spec lightweight flywheel
High pressure high volume oil pump

ceramic CT26
KO racing downpipe
no exhaust (open downpipe, loud as hell )
stock fuel rail, stock injectors
Apexi intake
Spearco sidemount IC
running off wastegate spring (roughly .6bar)
walbro 255lph fuel pump

so as you can see, my built block is going to wait for the bolt ons to come later. i'm going to get a baseline on the current setup once i've put some more miles on the clutch and taken care of the last little issues.

i'll keep you guys updated. thanks for all the kind words!!

-Mike
