Hello fellow MR2 fans... I find myself the proud owner of a 1988 Toyota MR2... rather unlikely as it is since I'm no big fan of Oriental cars at all... But this little thing is an exception... One of 3 Asian cars I like (the other two are the 1st gen. Nissan 300ZX and the Mitsubishi 3000GT) It's just too cool, and too different. It was a friend of mine's I knew its history for the past four years, I've even worked on it. I've always liked it. It was only $50 and I couldn't resist. Yes, she gave me a deal on it. 4AGE runs strong, tranny (5-speed) shifts smooth, not too much rust, etc, etc, etc. Only needs an alternator before it's running perfectly. So here I am. I've got a question which has its own thread.
I'm in Wilmington. I have a '91 SMG Turbo. I work at Advanced Auto Parts in Billerica, but only for the summer. I go back to Missouri to continue my college career
You might have seen one of several:
Couple years ago; earlier, Grey MR2 T-bar roof w/ "Bra" on front.
Later on: White MR2 w/sunroof.
Recently: Red MR2 w/T-bar roof.
The one I've bought is the first one, the grey one. You've probably seen the red car since it is on the road right now and I had it for several weeks. I know all three were at that Advance. If an "SMG" is a type of MR2, I think I've seen your car. I really know nothing about the MKII and MKIII MR2s. It's highly likely, in fact, that you've seen the red car.
No typo. Fifty Bucks.
It was a friend of mine's. She was moving, had 2 MR2s, sold me the "non-runner". Needs just an alternator before it will run (technically), could stand for tires (running some maypops right now), handbrake needs to be adjusted, and the paint is shit in places, a little bit of rust. Needs a blower fan. Chassis has 229,000 Miles on it and then some. A/C needs to be charged. (converted to R134a at the engine swap 30,000 miles ago).
She was going to give it to me for helping her move (Learn to drive trucks, it's useful). Sold it for $50 because selling a car for $1 is suspiscious to the registry. So yeah, it needs some work but it's got loads of potential.
Two days later the local service station owner offers me a FREE Cadillac (non-runner 1984 El Dorado stretch...) not enough money now... Wish me luck on the Job Interview tomorrow! I want the Cad too, dammit!
Bleh. Auto Parts store SUCK. Get way too many people who get pissed off for no reason. Always someone thats an ass for no reason, someone who thinks they know everything, and then guys who do know everything and you want to pound a belt tensioner into the back of their head. You couldnt pay me enough to do that job.
