radiator temperature switch replacement damage

Replaced the temperature switch on a mk1 with as little torque as possible but still managed to damage the radiator (caused a leak) near the thread for the switch. Might the radiator be repairable and is a flush at a radiator shop (radiator removed from car) a good idea?

Is the leak around the outside of the fitting where the sensor screws in? How much coolant is leaking? Is the cracked material plastic or metal? If the leak is small enough, it can most likely be repaired from the outside with the right glue. Check you auto parts store for radiator hole and crack sealants. You will need to drain the system, follow the directions on the sealant. The alternative is getting an opinion from a radiator shop, but the glues work pretty well. If the engine temp is OK now, just flush it yourself with water. I would not use any flushing compounds. Some of these just break any material inside the coolant system loose only to plug up the radiator tubes.
