This past weekend was the 100th Anniversary of the Giant's Despair Hillclimb and what a special event it was!
Darryl Danko, after a lifetime of dreaming it and striving for it, finally took the overall hillclimb record at an amazing 39.000 flat for the 1-mile course (average speed just over 90mph). The previous record was 39.9. Other people who have held the overall record at this event in the past include Roger Penske and Carol Shelby. Darryl set the record in Bobby Rahal's 1990 Kraco Indy Car (Buick V6 turbo running methanol):

The MR2s did very well again. Alvey Ford won Showroom Stock A in his 88 SC, Mark Childs won Showroom Stock C in his 85 MR2, Glenn Hoffman took 2nd place in ITA and I won SM2 and set a new hill record for the class.
I am really proud that I was the first car off the line on both days of this historic race. This whole event was just really special and Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association put on an amazing venue.
Last year, comparing overall raw times, Hyde placed 9th out of 88 cars.
This year Hyde placed 9th out of 103 entries. For the first time ever, Hyde was the fastest "door car" on the hill. All of the 8 cars posting faster times were built as race cars.
This was also the first time that we were able to get by Bill Miller's awesome Twin-turbo Audi ITE race car. He is an awesome driver and that car is truly a beast. He was eating Hyde up in the turns, but the long straights is where Hyde was able to pull away. He almost got me on his last run.
The SM2 record was 49.9 and we took it down to 48.8 on the second run and on the 3rd run we nailed a
48.3 seconds pass averaging about 75 mph over the whole course.
I truly feel this weekend has been Hyde's greatest achievement.
I hope this community is really proud of what it has built.
This car is simply amazing. I'm doing the best I can out there.
I think I am a good driver with a great car and I am fully aware that a great driver with a good car will usually beat me, but this weekend was mine.
How about some videos ... please turn up your volumn
