iat sensor or maf sensor

i got a 91 mr2 na, i got it used and its been messed with quite a bit by the previous owner,
i was checking out the engine where i found a sensor just hanging by the wire, it was not connected to anything so i started looking around. i noticed that the cold air intake that is installed on the car has a hole that looks fit for that sensor, i am assuming its the iat sensor?i looked on mr2 tech but it gives a kinda vague location to where the iat sensor goes. so my question is does the iat sensor go into the intake? the intake pipe itself is about 1 ft long and has a hole rightin the middle of it.And if that is the iat sensor then where is the MAF sensor? sorry if this is confusing. Does the IAT sensor affect HP? Sorry if this is confusing but any help is appreciated.

The NA's do not have an AFM/MAF so you are never going to find it

The IAT sensor is normally connected to th OEM air box, but if they installed an aftermarket piece then it needs to go somewhere else. It sounds to me like you have a match as to what piece goes where.

I just have a pipe with a cone filter on the end of it on my NA and the IAT has just been laying around for a couple of years. I have not noticed any difference in performance. I would not, however, want an open hole letting in unfiltered air like it sounds like you have.
