Tires unbalanced, or wheels bent.

My MR2 has the exact same prob. I have had the tires balanced and rotated with no improvemnent. Ive searched the forums and found that the most common culprit is bad ball joints. Im changing mine out this summer.

Vibration is rarely the direct result of a car with a bad alignment. What can happen is if your alignment is out of spec the tires wear unevenly which then causes vibration.

First step is to get the tires spin balanced and inspect the tread surface. If they do show signs of uneven wear take it in for an alignment.

In the course of doing all this when the car is jacked up you can check the condition of your ball joints by grabbing the tire at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and wiggle it to check for play. The more play there is the more your ball joints are worn.

Incidentally you can grab the tires at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock to check for wheel bearing play.

Cheap thing to check is to retorque the front wheels 76 ft-lbs off the top of my head I think. The front is so lightly loaded the wrong torque on the lugnuts can sometimes cause a vibration.

Be sure to use a balance machine that puts a load on the tire with a roller. Because I needed them anyway I bought new tires and had them balanced at a local shop. Still had the vibration and later at a shop with better equipment did I discover the problem was the wheels couldn't be brought into balance.

its not your brakes unless your braking... its not struts unless your absorbing impact.

start w/ tire pressure, tire wear, lug torque, wheel endplay... the simple stuff... then you wanna start checking bushings, then balljoint and tie rod endplay.

recommend... buy a factory manual and start to familarize yourself w/ components. and how to check them accurately
