Question Maybe buying an MR2

What kind of reliability am I looking at here?

I'm no car guru nor can I take an engine apart and put it back together.

I can do basic maintenance (with my trusty Hanes manual) and know my way around a toolbox, should I buy it?

A friend of mine from school has an MR2 so I am not entirely unfamiliar with them in any way... I love the way they ride, and look.

My real question to you all is, Should I buy it?

The car I am looking at buying is a 1991 Turbo with ~100k.

Also, what should I look for as far as potential issues for the future while looking to buy it? (abuse?)

All of your input is greatly appreciated,

Thanks much,

Joel

First off, check the title. If all maintenance records were kept, that's a plus. Do a compression test and get a trusted mechanic to check it out. If the car hasn't already had it's 60k maintenance, you will have to do that. The turbo might have excessive shaft play, etc. Boost leaks are common at that mileage.

Look to see if it is mostly stock. Ask the owner about any mods he might have made. The more mods, the more likely there was "abuse". Perfect situation would be a commuter car that was driven at least weekly until recently.
