I was quoted $2500 parts/labor/tuning for my 20v MR2. This would be for a 8psi system I guess.
Is this a good price? I think I can afford it, and I really want this thing to be faster! I mean, the 20v swap did make a difference... but the car still isn't nearly as fast as it looks!
Also, what kind of power would 8psi make on a 20v with MegaSquirt, EDIS, intake, intercooler, etc?
ehhh the 3sgte is so passe tho. I mean, it's in MK2 MR2's and All-Tracs... and now people are putting them in MK1 MR2's. I like the turbo 20v idea because it is unique(r). Few people have one, and I just like the motor itself.
Plus... I already have one with the MegaSquirt all done, so that's half the battle :p
No dyno yet, no. I plan to do it before I do the turbo.
Yes the 20v silvertop is 11:1, but it has the same internals (except the pistons) as the 4agze, so it is boost friendly. Just...not too much. I think you can do 8psi safely. I know a guy pusing 15psi on a stock internal one (in an MR2 no less) and he says he has no issues.
iirc the redtop sr20 had a t25 so i am guessing it is similiar but maybe smaller. if that is so it is a pretty small turbo but with that high compression i wouldnt go crazy.
i think you should do it but thats just my opinion. i would love to have a mk1 w/ a silvertop. then again i also want a 2zz-swapped mk3. now i just need my mk2 to stop breaking.....
Totally. I'll have it around 5psi daily driver, and 8psi or so for when those stupid ricers try and race me. Though I don't think I even need a turbo for most of them
that being said... i'm curious as to who quoted you... i know that drtweak did your MS setup and if it's him doing the turbo, then it's probably been thought out well
otherwise, i would be a little skeptical..... i personally could do the whole setup (motor, MS/edis, turbo setup) for under 2500.... but that's because i always find stupid deals and can do the work myself..... that being said, for someone to locate the turbo parts (being that a 20V flange isn't exactly easily obtainable) and do the work for that much (a real shop usually charges $60 per hour for labor.....).....
anyways.... at the very least you'll still need larger injectors (the 290's on 20V's are too small for boost....) and the 20V's use sidefeed injectors.... which are less popular than top feeds... ie, more expensive and somewhat more difficult to locate.... you'll also need quite a bit of piping..... if you plan to keep the IC under the engine lid then you're gonna have to relocate the battery (or start cutting the engine lid... i did both on my 87 with the gze in it).... i would also reccomend a STRONGER plenum.... i couldn't see boost being held in that plenum too well......
