Squirly Toyota

Alright Just bought a 91 SW20 and ive noticed its really squirly. Shifting braking and accelerating all seem to want to spin me around. Is it like that with all these babies?? Any idea??

Another question would be if yours is a turbo model or not.

I've got new pirelli tires on mine and its N/A the only way I can get it to squirl is by completely flooring it and dumping it.

But yea mainly guy above me is right have you ever driven a RWD car before.

Try this experiment to understand the difference between FWD or RWD:
In the shower or tub whichever one u use tonight for your shower. Lather up that soap bar real good. Then push the soap bar up the wall with your index finger pushing down on the FRONT of the car going upwards. This simulates FWD pretty easy to push the soap bar up the wall.
RWD simulation- Push the same lathered up bar up the wall with your index finger on the back of the bar. You won't be able to push it up as fast as the front and you'll probably be doing a few squirlies.

HTH

Edit: MRQTurbo, can you help me out on my post up here for my car? I need some service information.

The soap analogy seems pretty hard to do.

It should be for RWD... FWD wise should be easy to go up the wall.. RWD wise you should be having the rear swing out. Okay so yea I guess if the soap bar was going to realisticly be a car the this would simulate some sort of superhcarged cobra or supra with like a thousand HP.

sounds like a broken engine mount or a really bad alignment

Hahaha thanks,

TechMR2, ToyotaTechGeek maybe more right than our original conclusions since you said you just bought it we weren't sure if u have driven a RWD before. If you are getting the same problems braking... then there's an issue with the car. If its just aceeleration and shifting then it may be just you.

Go get your car checked out

Alignment was my guess to. Ive driven rwd before and never noticed this type of control problem. After check out the car again I think the front left control arm is bent. Also do the MR2s come with a front sway bar?? If so mines missing. Oh and it is a trubo. Not to be off topic or anything but does anyone know of a good place to get performence parts for the 3sgte?? Thanks guys!

check out www.mr2oc.com

there should definitely be a front swaybar installed. make sure all your suspension components are in good condition, your tires have plenty of tread left, and then go get an alignment.

I think it might be the rear tie-rod ends that are worn.
