I was wondering what the fastest MR2 engine is. What are all the specs for it too? thanks i really need the help im doing an engine swap and i need to choose an engine.
Fastest? As in highest achievable RMP? Or do you mean highest Horsepower? I assume you mean which will make your car fastest. I believe the answer to that is the hyper-rare twincharged engine which I believe could make upwards of 400 HP. Not many of them were made. There was also a twin-turbo MKI that was slightly lesser but still mind-blowing.
Easily available MR2 engine with the most powered I believe is the 4AGZE with 145 HP. This is the most powerful engine an MR2 ever mounted. There are variants of the 4AGZE floating around, specifically in the JDM versions of the otherwise unremarkable Corolla, which reached 170 HP, which is probably the most powerful engine you can easily mount in an MR2 but good luck getting hold of one. Also there are 20-valve versions of the 4AGE which nearly meat that figgure at 165 HP.
But all sorts of engines can be fitted, I've even heard tell of Cadillac V8s crammed into MR2s. Yes, you need a BIG shoehorn.

True, but how far do you want to go in that direction; someone put a pair of General Electric Jet engines on his MKII and got it up to "187 MPH with a lot more room to go."? And nobody ever mentioned what car this guy has; a MKI or a MKII. As a MKI owner I naturally assume a MKI, but I have no idea.

The MR2 Spyder had a 1.8L 4-banger, the 1ZZ-FE. Put out 130hp.
I have to say aint it stupid thats the MRS got the 1ZZ, what was Toyota thinking when they dropped that motor into the MRS. They should have kept the 3SGTE motor into it.
