Suspension Trouble

Okay guys so the other day I accidently lost the back end and slammed one of my wheels into the curb...Now my rear driver's side wheel is sitting like it's got a boatload of negative camber on it...I went to a shop to check it out and they're telling me that I bent my strut tower and that it needs to be replaced...Now this is what I'm thinking: My local Toyota dealership wants 200 dollars alone for that one strut...But I'm think I could get aftermarket for much cheaper, and I've been meaning to upgrade the suspension on my car for a while...

That being said, does anyone know of a good set of aftermarket struts and springs...Or perhaps an entire coilover kit...I basically want a set up that will allow me to drive with a reasonable level of comfort on the street but still perform well when I take it tracking...Any suggestions? I actually prefer used because my budget is quite small.

It's a 1992 N/A btw...

Replacement struts don't actually replace the part that is probably bent. They just drop inside the factory strut. You'll prolly need a new one anyway, unless you go coil-over. If you get a new strut tower, you may as well get 4 new shock cartriges, since the one on that side probably won't be any good anymore, and aftermarket ones very well could be cheaper than OEM. I think my KYBs were 150 or 250.

Is that all that got messed up? How about your wheel or control arms? Sounds like you might have gotten lucky if it's just the strut. Good luck.

If it breaks, you must upgrade!

yeah man...my wheel took a hard hit...i already have a replacement for that though...what i'm worried about is the lower control arm...but anyway my first step is to replace the strut...i found another guy on the ontario board that has the entire assembly for sale so i'll probably pick it up off him and go from there...i was really tempted to do the upgrade but i can't really afford the $$ right now....sigh, thanks for the response though dude...we'll see what happens
